Last Week:
Hearing the Gospel isn't all the Indians get from the radios. There was once a woman, 62 years old, who was sick for forty years. She lived way up in the mountains surrounded by high cliffs so it was hard for her to find doctors to help her. She did see many witch doctors but none of them could heal her. Then one day she heard a noise. An airplane flew right over her house and she saw one of the Mercy Wings radios drop from the sky...
The Sky is Falling!
...right to the woman's front yard. She, like all the other Indians who got radios, took it out of the box and turned it on. As she did, she too was hearing the Gospel, just like everyone else. Then, she heard the people on the radio say, "If you are sick and want to be healed put one hand on the
radio and one hand on your body. Just have faith that Jesus will heal you." So, that's what she did. She believed Jesus could heal her and she was healed! Now, she has Jesus in her heart and she tells her friends and family about how He healed her and changed her life.
In The Beginning...
All in all, being a Mercy Wings pilot is not easy. They have to fly to hard-to-reach places way up in the mountains where dangerous cliffs go down two times deeper than the Grand Canyon! But thousands of Mexican Indians who have never even heard the name of Jesus Christ live in these canyons so they know they have to go and tell them that there is a God who loves them.
Sometimes, though, the Indians don't want to hear the missionaries. Jerry Witt's father, Jerry Witt Sr. was also a pilot. He would pass out Gospel Tracts instead of radios. But the people didn't welcome him and didn't want his Tracts so they shot down his plane killing him and his friend. Now, Jerry Witt Jr. has taken over. But some of the people don't like him either.
Trouble Ahead!
Once, a stranger stopped Witt's truck on an empty road to warn him that there were some people up ahead that were going to try and hurt him. Witt was surprised. He thanked the man and turned his truck around to go the other way. Witt believes that the strange man was actually an angel that God had sent to warn him. Again God had saved his life.
Jerry Wiley has also known trouble. He and his dad were taking off from a new airstrip Wiley wanted to show his dad. But as soon as the plane was in the air it lost power. Jerry tried to bring the plane back down when all of a sudden he saw a tree coming towards the left wing of the plane...
