Last Week:
...Another time, the Indians needed bees for their farms. So, Jerry Wiley and some helpers loaded boxes of bees in his plane. As he was flying the wind got stronger and the plane started shaking. The bees were getting mad. They didn't like the bouncing or the loud noise that planes make. Wiley didn't know what to do so he began to pray. Then, some of the angry bees got out of their boxes and started to...
Bees With Angry Eyes!
...fly around the plane trying to sting Wiley and his helpers. Finally they were getting close to their landing spot. Wiley quickly landed the plane hitting the brakes and then ran out screaming to everyone on land, "Bees! Bees! They are loose in the plane!" Everyone was running around in circles. They didn't know what to do about the bees. But after several hours the bees calmed down and the helpers were able to put them in their new home where they make honey for the tribe.
Look Out Below!
Not only do the Mercy Wings' pilots deliver things like bees, they also deliver radios to the Indians. When Jerry Wiley was a young boy, he put his cat in a box with a parachute and threw it off the top of his church! The parachute didn't open so the cat in the box hit the ground hard. The poor kitty ran away for three days. Wiley felt bad and has never thrown a cat off the roof again.
But now he does something else. The pilots throw radios with parachutes out of a plane as a gift for the Indians. They fly their planes over their houses. Then, drop the radios out of the plane. They are so good at it that sometimes the radios go right inside the houses through the front door!
This Just In...
These are special radios. They don't bring music to the Indians; they bring the Good News of Jesus! When an Indian gets a radio from the planes, it's in a small box. They open this box to find the radio and a piece of paper that shows them how to use it. Then they turn it on. When they do, they can hear someone tell them about Jesus in their own language. And it goes on all day. As long as they are around it, they can hear all about God's Son and even accept Him into their hearts.
Healing In the Desert
Hearing the Gospel isn't all the Indians get from the radios. There once was a woman, 62 years old, who was sick for 40 years. She lived way up in the mountains surrounded by high cliffs so it was hard for her to find doctors to help her. She did see many witch doctors but none of them could heal her. Then, one day, she heard a noise. An airplane flew right over her house and she saw one of the Mercy Wings radios drop from the sky...
Now that you've read chapter 2 -- take our Missions Quiz to see how well you remember it.
Next chapter: Find out what happens to the very sick woman with the radio.
